Welcome to the new Metropolitan Hotel website.
My name is Craig McVean, and I am your proprieter, chef and host whenever you come and visit our hotel.
You may have heard of us previously, when we were reviewed by 3AW and given Pub of the Year in 2005.
Or maybe you heard about us from our numerous other favaourable reviews.
The Age Good Food Guide had this to say about us:
“… Adjoining the former Meat Market in North Melbourne, the Hotel Metropolitan may have recently undergone an extreme makeover but it’s still determined to celebrate its roots. The restaurant makes a point of ageing its own beef and relies on local markets for its ingredients. Hence owner-chef Craig McVean chalks up a menu of classic gastropub dishes on the blackboard each morning …”
It doesn’t matter if you are dropping in for a quick beer, or sitting down to a fabulous meal, my staff and myself will always do our best to make sure you feel at home.

I was disappointed i couldn\’t make it in for a meal will be sure to stop in next time I\’m back in Melb. Great place. As we say in Ireland \”Maith thu\” - well done!

Had lunch at your wonderful establishment today and found the atmosphere, room and food to be fantastic. I had the Meat Market Steak and it was cooked to perfection.
I would not hesitate to recommend the Metropolitan Hotel to relatives and friends.
Look forward to my next visit!

The food , atmosphere , & service was compared to nothing else we have experienced before.
We had our wedding reception there & thought it was fantastic . Highly recomended , & to the staff & all at the Metropolitan ,once again Tyrone & i cant thank you enough .
